John Cheuck, Apax-Globis Partners & Co. (Tokyo)
Venture Partner
Graduated from the University of
Waterloo, Ontario with a Bachelor of Applied Science in
Systems Design Engineering with a major in computer and
software engineering. He also received an M.B.A. from
the University of Hawaii, College of Business
Administration's Japan-America Institute of Management
Science, where he wrote a thesis on Japan-China-Asia
Technology Investment Flows.
John has been living and working in Japan/the Asian
region for the past 13 years and has substantial
experience in cross-border management, joint-venture
negotiation, business development, and investment. He
has particular expertise in software, semiconductors and
embedded systems.
John Cheuck has been a Venture Partner at Apax-Globis
Partners & Co. (Tokyo) since 2001. Prior to Apax-Globis,
John held executive positions at Turbolinux K.K. (Vice
President) and Metrowerks Co., Ltd. (President and
Managing Director, Tokyo), Motorola Asia Col, Lt. (Vice
President, Embedded), and IBM Canada (Systems
Programmer).
John Cheuck is a Member of the Board of Xelo Co., Ltd.
(Tokyo), ELT Co., Ltd. (Tokyo), and Systems Design Co.,
Ltd. (HK). In addition, John currently sits as the
Vice-Chairman of the Japan Embedded Linux Consortium and
has been in the past, a Director of the IP Consortium of
Japan and a member of the Board of Advisors for Access
Co., Ltd., Japan's leading i-mode browser and Software
Company. He also serves on the advisory board of Danger
(http://www.danger.com) (US).
John is fluent in English, Japanese, Cantonese, French
and conversational in Mandarin.
